Carport to Make a Good Impression

Carport is a great solution for your car storage. However it is important to keep in mind that the carport is usually situated at the front of your property. The right carport can make a fantastic impression and improve the property value. In the same time a carport that looks cheap or dodgy can devalued the house.

I have been in the carport industry for many years and from my experience I would like to point on few important things when deciding about your new carport project.

First think of a shape. Look at the house and describe it. Does it have "gable" elements (gable is a two side roof) or does it look like "hips" (hip is a four side roof looking more like a pyramid).

If the house has gables you might want to consider your carport as a gable one.

If the house has got a hip roof, you might want to go with a hip carport.

On this picture on the right the carport has got a Dutch Gable roof (a combination of a gable and a hip roof). Typically it is commended for a house with a Dutch gable elements.

What is the pitch of the house roof? We always recommend to build a carport with a slightly smaller pitch, so it does not dominate the building. For example if the house roof is 22.5 degrees, you might want to use a 15 degree pitch for your carport. If your house has got a 35 degree roof, you might consider a 20 or even 25 degree carport roof.

Crucial Steel Carport Buyer Tips

The steel carport is obviously in the category of the toughest metal carports that has been ever made. It however, happens that so many people who would have loved to have one are equally challenged in buying it, due to the high rate of procuring this. Since they don't seem to be aware of the long-term benefit of getting one that will usually outlive other types of carports.
One benefit for whoever heeds this advice is that his carport will be stronger and be able to withstand strong wind speeds that other metal carports might not be able to take. Steel carports can take many miles per hour of wind speed, which other types of carports cannot take. To get more information on this, you can visit your preferred carport manufacturer's website. There are two ways, which can be used to get a carport made from steel. One is installing the carport yourself, by making use of the installation kit; this is the less expensive option, while the second one is getting the professionals from where you bought it to do it for you, which will usually be at a price. Building your carport by yourself using a steel carport kit is one sure way of reducing cost of procuring this asset. This is not difficult as directions on how to do this is often well explained in the product's manual. The cost of getting this not so cheap item pays off at the end of the day, when you use it for many years afterward.
You can install metal carports on practically every surface, from the backyard grass of your home to the hard concrete floor in your driveway.
However, if you feel you are not up to the task of setting up your own carport, you should get professional help which will be at a fee. It will still pay off as this will prevent you from wrongly installing your metal carport to the detriment of its durability and possible warranty benefits if such need arises.
You also need to do some evaluation to confirm if what you really need is a steel metal type carport. Your considerations should be guided by (a) wind speed in the area where it will be installed, as this will confirm if this type of carport is necessary (b) What you want to use the carport for, as carports can be used for various things (c) the strength of the metal carport you want to buy. Information about the strength can be gotten from frame gauge of the carport.
This information should also be checked even when you want to get a steel carport, since the number indicated there informs you of how strong this carport is, which consequently, tells you to what extent it can withstand challenging weather conditions. The higher the number indicated here the stronger the carport.

Metal Carport Kits

Metal carport kits are the cheapest and easiest way of constructing a new carport. The kits come with full and detailed instructions and most can be constructed with a day or two using only the most basic of household tools. These pre-fab carport kits are generally made out of steel or aluminum and come with everything you will need to complete the construction process.
There are generally 2 basic types of metal carports. There are stand alone carports and car ports that attach to your house or another structure. Within these 2 general categories of carports there are some sub-categories that pertain to the type of roof. Those carports that are stand alone carports tend to have shed or gable roves. Those carports that attach to the house tend to be flat roof carports or single slope or lean to carports. All types of carports serve specific purposes and none are better than the others.
Metal carport kits are not just used to protect cars these days. People are using carports for all sorts of purposes. These days many lean to metal carports are used as awnings to cover front porches and side patios. It is only upon closer inspection that you even notice that these structures are actually carports. Metal carports that attach to the house also provide great covered play areas for children. With the addition of a small fence, these carports provide the perfect sheltered outdoor play area for children.
Stand alone metal carports can be used as a gazebo or picnic area shelter in your backyard or at your cottage. If a double carport is used then as many as 4 picnic tables can fit underneath the roof. In the alternative, a few picnic tables plus a BBQ area would comfortably fit underneath a double carport. The addition of some plain netting or screen can keep the mosquitos out. With the right protection from the elements, outdoor gatherings can proceed in any type of weather or conditions.
Of course it goes without saying, that carports of all types and sizes can also be used to protect vehicles from the elements. Metal carport kits most often come in one car or two car designs. There are also metal rv carports which are generally longer and higher than the average carport.
Good quality metal carports can last a lifetime and can really enhance the value of your house. These carports can serve multiple functions and accordingly can also really enhance the enjoyment you get out of your home and or the functionality of your home. Keep an open mind about the different ways a metal carport kit might be of benefit to your family.
